WAKEHURST PLACE, Ardingly, West Sussex, RH17 6TN – Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st October 2012
The post Show public event, Festival of British Fruit has become over the past few years a really valuable addition to the main Show and always proves to be popular with visitors.
The National Fruit Show held in Kent each year is the showcase for the fruit industry; growers, marketing companies and other industry specialists come together for two days in October. The National Fruit Show hosts fruit competitions for commercial growers who enter their best dessert apples, culinary apples, pears, soft fruit and nuts. There is also a juice competition attracting a wide range of English fruit beverages.
Since its inception the Post Show event has travelled to different parts of the country to showcase the very best British fruit for consumers. Visitors over the years have been able to taste new varieties not yet available for sale and talk to fruit growers about modern orchards, seasonality and how to store fruit once purchased.
We are delighted to be going to Wakehurst Place to be part of the Great Seed Swop. The winning fruit from each of our competition classes will be displayed and visitors at the Millenium Seed Bank will have the opportunity to taste new varieties such as Kanzi, Jazz, Rubens, Cameo and Zari as well as the traditional British Cox apple, Conference and Comice pear and not forgetting Britain’s most popular apples gala and Braeburn.
The prize-winning fruit will be displayed on a custom six metre A-frame allowing the fruit to be viewed. Included in the display will be exhibits from the National Heaviest Apple and Pear competition, which in the past has featured Guinness World Record breaking fruit.
We will have a National Fruit Show award winning apple juice producer with us so visitors will have the opportunity to not only taste, but also buy a first class juice. The Bramley Campaign will be serving up free samples of Bramley Apple pie and members of the Marden Fruit Show Society will be on hand to talk to visitors about all things fruit!
Most importantly visitors will have the chance to buy the award winning fruit and take home a selection of fruit grown by the best commercial growers in the country.
