The 32nd National Fruit Show Apple Juice Competition was held on the 4th March 017 at Bradbourne House. With 17 producers and 55 entries, it was a busy day.
There were 15 entries for Class 40 Blended Apple Juice, 25 for Class 41 Single Variety Juice and 11 for Class 42 Blended Fruit Juice, soft fruit and elderflower being the main addition to the apple or pear in this juice.
The single variety Class had entries featuring several lesser-known varieties including Kidd’s Orange Red, Tydeman’s Late Orange and A’Arcy Spice, as well as the usual varieties featuring Cox, Discovery and Russet.
The prestigious accolade “Best Juice in Show” was awarded to a single variety juice entered by a new entrant Cotchel, George Thompson, Great Oakley Ltd, with Opal apples, one of the newer varieties which have been found, through our schools programme, to be very popular with children.
