Best of British – August 2012

Inspired by the success of the recent London 2012 Olympic Games this year’s National Fruit Show aims to build on the resurgence of being proud to be British.

The Olympic and Paralympic games has reawakened a lost sense of pride in our achievements, out patriotism and most importantly a belief that we are able to hold our head high as a nation and revel in our ability to be the best.

British Fruit is without exception the best tasting fruit in the world (in our opinion) and the display at the Show in October is wonderful.  New varieties such as Jazz, Kanzi, Rubens and Zari nestle next to the old stalwarts; cox, gala and braeburn.

It is true to say that consumers palettes’ are changing and the new sweet varieties are beginning to prove popular in the shops.  It will be interesting to see which variety picks up the accolade of ‘The Tastiest Apple’ 2012?
