The Robert Mitchell Partnership have two reasons to celebrate this year as they have not only won this year’s Pears class in the National Fruit Show Long Term Farm Stored Competition but in addition, Robert Mitchell has been awarded the Ron Tassell Trophy for the Store Operator of the Best All Round Exhibit.
“I’m absolutely delighted to win the pear trophy for the 2009 season; we grew a fantastic crop of pears.” After a spell of winning prizes in the 1980s and 1990s, the farm took a sabbatical while Robert was Chairman of the Marden Fruit Show Society. As he says, “it will be nice to be holding some silverware again.”
Winning the Ron Tassell Trophy for the Store Operator of the Best All Round Exhibit means a great deal personally to Robert Mitchell. As he explains, “Ron Tassell was a personal friend. When I first started in refrigeration engineering he was a senior engineer with J T Herbert and I gained a terrific amount of experience on the service and repair of equipment while on work experience with him at the start of my career.”
The prize money for the Pear class is sponsored by Scorpion Engineering Ltd. Adrian Scripps Ltd picks up second prize and third goes to W Gunyon & Sons.
